The South Central Kentucky Minority Economic Development Council (SCKMEDC) was formed as a collaboration between the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and local business people interested in increasing diversity within the regional business community.

Mission:

SCKMEDC was formed to provide business, economic, and job opportunities for minorities; to develop community based economic empowerment programs; to design programs to correlate with corresponding efforts in the mainstream; and to act as a catalyst, facilitator, and financier for women and minority owned businesses within the TVA/Barren River Area Development District (BRADD) service areas of South Central Kentucky.

Services Offered:

The SCKMEDC primarily offers technical assistance in helping entrepreneurs prepare comprehensive business plans that will strengthen the effectiveness and scope of existing/proposed business.

A Revolving Loan Fund has been established to provide SCKMEDC with a financial tool capable of enhancing proposed business plans. As a result, private sector financing is not replaced, but is leveraged when participating in these business ventures.
In combining these service features, the SCKMEDC exists as a financial and informational hub, servicing both existing community programs and entrepreneurs.

Eligibility:

Any business which is at least 51% minority or woman-owned, controlled, and daily managed is eligible for SCKMEDC assistance. Minority individuals include, but are not limited to African American, Hispanic, American Indian, Asian Pacific, and Asian Indian Americans. SCKMEDC services are available to for-profit businesses in various trade areas, including retail, construction, wholesale, manufacturing, and services. SCKMEDC services target productive community oriented ventures. Our service include Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren Counties.
